| Escrito al dorso: "SPEAKERS CORNER IN THE HYDE PARK: London
´s Hyde Park was once described by a visiter from overseas as `the
most original park in Europe´. But its originality is less apparent to
Londoners, to whom it represents a well loved freedom - freedom to
roam at will over acres of the green grass in the midst of the turmoil of
London, a freedom to pronounce one`s views on any subject to an
amused interested audience drawn from the crowds frequenting the park
on Sunday afternoons in the days of peace.
The Park now were a more war - like aspect, like the rest of London.
Some of its laws have been turned up and given over the growning of
vegetables, some are wired off from public trespaes, and the smaller
number of people to been walking through are now, for the most part, in
the unifroms of the services.
Mr. Arthur Meade, seen in this photograph, is a familiar figure to
Londoners who used yo frequent Hyde Park on Sunday afternoons in
peace time. He adresses the crowds on the subject of philosophy
quoting glibly from Aristotle and the modern Proffesor Joad. THIS
PHOTOGRAPH HAS BEEN PASSED BY THE CENSOR." | |
