| Escrito al dorso: "WESTMINSTER ABBEY, MOTHER CHURCH OF THE BRITISH EMPIRE.
The British, with their high regard for tradition, have a special feeling of affection and respect for the grey stones of their 800 year old Abbey of Westminster, which stands close by the Houses of Parliament in London.
Westminster Abbey is Mother Church of the British Empire. For centuries the British people have worshipped there, seen their kings crowned there, and buried within its four walls their great and famous men.
The men in this picture, their white surplices distincts against the heaped sandbags behind them, are the servers of the Abbey. They are organised into a Guild of 22 members, called the ´Brotherhood of St. Edward the Confessor´. When this picture was taken they were about to take their place in a festival procession.
THIS PICTURE HAS BEEN PASSED BY THE CENSOR." | |
